PLKN Kumpulan 1 Siri 6/2009

It has been 5 years since i last updated my blog.. from 17 turning to 22 in a blink of eyes.. oops! i'm still 21 though ;) you could never imagine how time can pass so fast... now that i had just finished my 2nd year of my degree course in dentistry.. so here is it, i'm back to bring my blog back alive again.

I'm wondering where to start... hmm, allow me to start off with my experiences right after graduating from my fellow high shool, SMK Seri Kembangan. :)

Right after my student's life in high school, there was a lag period of thinking about what course i want to study, where should i go for college etc etc... let's talk about that later, because there is something which specialized in catching fresh-graduated students from high schools, called Program Latihan Khidmat Negara (PLKN). yeah right i kena too!

well, that was few month before SPM and we got to check online to see whether are you lucky enough to kena or not. So, our class were in physic lab that time i remember, and the first reaction i have is "wow! kena looo".. seems like i'm the only one who being happy for that. and others with the sad face... then i started to doubt myself, aiyaa i tipu u all punyaaa, i sad juga :')

The very first day of PLKN, when everyone go and report themselves, i kena Dengue fever.. screw you Aedes aegypti!! The next 2 days i terus report myself in the camp, luckily it's in Selangor, if it's Sabah or Sarawak i have to buy my own flight tickets...

and here is it....

tadaa~ Kem Setia Ikhlas, Semenyih!!

The first day i reported myself and i automatically kena pulled into the Cina gang... seriously, i can't adapt myself there! it's like prison at the first thought! :S i have to admit that i'm being too discipline for the whole 3 months that i couldn't enjoy the NS life properly! if only i knew they won't put u down in prison or shoot u on spot when u did something wrong... If any of u kena NS, u should bring a camera like u going travel, and Enjoy to the max!! (excluding any violent behavior or offending any 'serious' rules in the camp) i can't guarantee ur safety with that *wink*

Cina gangs (with some mixture of  ah ne brudder)

Despite of all the regrets for the stuffs i didn't get to enjoy, i still manage to get some friends there and share feelings for. There is this good friend i can't forget, who i call him "Yan"... he is a malay from Tawau~ i like the way he entertain friends around in a polite way, and he is a very kind-hearted person. Sorry that i dun have a picture of him... see? the disadvantage of not having a camera...

Throughout the 3 months, i experiencing loads of activities and i can conclude like this :
1st month - Ceramah, ceramah and ceramah all the way
2nd month - i love malaysia, i love malaysia, oh negaraku...... thats right, all about topics of kenegaraan
3rd month - finally something fun, out-going month - Khidmat komuniti

The first month always the bored ones, but it gives the chance for u to adapt ur camp, and explore. Not to forget they will have to bald ur head... erm, 90% bald i shld say? i'll take it as bald, cos it's really short!!! like no hair at all! it's the first time i cut this short since baby time, and the moment i felt so shy to see any girls around, just like i'm naked! o.o that feeling was... so awkward!

the hair kira very long already for this one @_@

There are rules in the camp that we should follow but what really affect us the most is just few only : -
1. No PHONES allowed on monday to friday, if u really wanted to call, prepare more duit syilings to call by public phone
2. Boys and girls have to sit separately on each side (left for boys, right for girls). chatting 1 on 1 with opposite sex is a serious taboo in the camp! *i think this is the reason i couldn't attract females there*
3. Tidy up ur bed and keep ur cupboard closed when u go out, and the shoes must arranged in order under ur bed, without obeying to these, ur whole dorm kena Tsunami (where all beds mattress went up and down, by the lovely guru-guru pelatih)
4. No electrical appliances, any! (wonder if girls had problem in drying their hair then)

my dorm

Every friday night or saturday, when we are given back our phones, the whole dorm ppl will tend to bring out extensions chargers everything to charge their phones and i remember one time, cos the plug-ins are overloaded, the whole camp out of electric... :P that's a pity one. and after the incident, we used to take turn to charge, regardless ur phone fully charge or not. luckily i'm using an old version of Nokia that time..

Eventhough there wasn't any kettles in my dorm, we managed to get a kettle from our guru pelatih to cook maggie at night... and i remember the time all of us were sharing hot maggie in one big plastic oil bottle... disgusting right? along the longkang outside the dorm lagi.. :$

There was a funny thing i heard during the first month in the camp... our dorms are arranged in ladder form following up the hill. and there was this dorm at the toppest part of the hilltop (my cousin's Delta company dorm) and there are some malay guys at the dorm who sneak peak at the girls' bathroom down hill from their dorm.. they saw everything! and the girls screammmmm o.o that moment was really.... embarassing! the whole company of them kena punished after that -_- pity my cousin..

the ladder leading to Delta's company boys' dorm

By the way, in the camp, we boys called as Wira and girls called as Wirawati... this song always come to my mind when mentioning about NS.. "Wira wirawati harapan bangsa...." lols! that time everyday u have to sing until it have to poison ur mind. ~.~

What did we do everyday? you must be wondering... other than 5 meals a day, the activities from morning to afternoon like routine senaman aerobik, kawad kaki all the way from dorm to canteen to padang kawad, go where oso kawad, go back dorm oso mau kawad, everything kawad replacing walking, all these will make u exhausted enough.. and u have to wash ur clothes lagi, take bath etc etc... IF we really have that extra time, and i duno how, i really have that time too, then ppl who same as me will set a fire outside the dorm, sitting around the fire, and take out our uniform's boots then start polishing... polish how long u want, until it kilat upto ur satisfying level. hahaa.. our commandant like to see our shoes kilat kilat one.

kilat enough? nono.. i've seen worse

Let's me show you the road from our dorm to the canteen :D
this is uphill and u can see Delta company up there

this is my Alpha dorm :) start from here

the houses at the right is the place we 'shave' our head, and patients' ward

and here is the canteen :))

sorry Nelson... caught u wuat bei si >_<

Imagine we have to kawad all the way from up to down and from down to up... everyday... :(

I have to skip the stories of the ceramah thing because i just barely remember something for what they talk for the whole month... i jus remember on a Saturday, we are asked to take out our phones during the ceramah and send an SMS to register for RakanCop. that's the only one i remember rather than those anti-dadah kind of talks.. zzz.. *sleep all the way* not just me though.. dun believe me?

*picture explains everything*

Kenegaraan classes were boring too.. u always have to come out an idea with ur random groups for new slogan, new cheer etc... everytime u have to share about what u've learn in class, and u have to give opinion on this and that... getting involve on the topic u don't like is really ~.~ boring...

There was a problem where i experience fear everytime i woke up at night and go to toilet.. cons of drinking too much water before bedtime :S and the door keep banging and banging, cold wind blows blablabla.. just like how u see in tv everytime before ghost appear -_- grr.. and i experience this everyday during the first month in camp.. the fear won't go away eventhough i did the same every night! and there is one programme that saved me from these feelings in the camp. What a blessful thing that we had religion classes at Thursday, Friday night. u can select which kind of class u want to go according to ur religion, so whether u r hindu, muslim, or buddhist, there are classes there provided. The teachings of buddhism which i first approach there allow me to overcome these fear and gave me some introduction and foundation in buddhism. I've never regret to join NS because of this as one reason. Soon after the first month, i didn't wake up in the midnight searching for toilet again.

Saturday we are given chance to go for temples, churches, mosques on our will :) and the temple i went is just nearby my hometown in Serdang, it's a Nalanda association buddhist centre.. So i went every saturday and i remember the most memorable one is when we write a card back to our home to our parents... thats a really heart-warming one. haha..

There was an incident happened during the last month of our NS, if i'm not mistaken, there is a surau in our camp, and unfortunately there was this night when our muslim friends were doing Solat Maghrib, one by one kena rasuk and there are total of 20 plus malays involved in the massive rasuk... they act abnormally and very different from the way they behave usually, and some girls speak man's voice! my good friend Yan told me the situation in the surau that night, and the rasuk happen in chain, one after one. he said to me those who kuat agama will survive from the fight where the hantu, jin or smth try to enter his/her body. anyway, that night they hug us at night to sleep because they claim that we non-muslims will not kena. After days of finding out the reasons, it was because there were some Malays from Delta company used a scorpion for photographing purpose and removed it's tail. The guru pelatih told us that there was spirit inside the scorpion, which later provoke the whole incident which lasts for 5 days, and the following week, and following week again where one of the Malay friend from my Alpha company kena rasuk again and again, at the end he was sent back home and i duno what happened to him next.

What i heard from Yan was, that night don't know why the "dinding" of their surau broken suddenly (dinding is an invincible wall that is made by their muslim's incantation, smth like ritual recitation of words that prevent the entry of evil stuffs) and causing the invasion of the spirits easily... weird stuff huh... Heard that this kind of incident always happen in different camps where all within forests or seaside areas... Those are the scariest thing in NS..

Other than these, we shall look more into those exciting experiences we had like holding on the M16 rifle, which we could not feel it in our hand anymore again in entire life... It was awesome to be the first 10 who open fire out of the whole camp ppl.. ^^v later on after we finished our shooting, there are media came to us and interview 3 of us, a malay, an indian and a chinese as well. couldn't forget the excitement :)
not to forget about the sulfur that spit out from the rifle after each shot that makes ur eyes full of tears... and the smell.. *eew*

this is how we lie down and aim our M16 to the target board
dun ever think that u can turn around and shoot wherever you want :S
cos there is always a guy beside and pressing ur back!

Best thing of the camp was that i had my both cousins with me in the same camp.. so i won't feel that lonely haha.. The most hilarious thing is our cina gang in my dorm keep asking me for my cousin sister number... and then he really manage to get another girl contact from my cousin, then slowly they knew them one by one.. and their friendship goes until now.. but they barely remember me already.. except my cousin.. lols!

left most is my cousin brother, and behind was the place we tried on our M16! :)

The community service at the last month (khidmat komuniti) was fun too cos we get to travel around in a bus and visit places that we will nvr wanted to go like Syabas (water supplier company), Tugu Negara, Police Head Department etc etc... if its not for NS i won't go pun :p hahahaa

Something i must not missed out about the programme before Chinese New Year break for our first batch NS ppl of the year 2009 that time... we actually did chinese fans and flags dances and we practicing it so hard.. without any professional teachings lols..

besides, i practiced Kawad Bunga for Closing Ceremony too, which involves only volunteers, i like to kawad, so i joined :P but it's very tiring though.

I couldn't forget the moment i went down with few friends chosen to test for kayak... just once that time, and then i don't know why the activities on the lake were canceled later on, what i heard was one of us who went down the lake that time kena diarrhea vomiting or smth. hmmm... fortunately i tried hehe... Not to forget about the Flying fox above the lake too... it was fun! and i pity for some ppl who stuck at the middle of the rope halfway from top to the end.

saw the rope? that is the flying fox rope

more visible from this view :)

the lake where i kayak.. saw the kayaks there under the roof? ;D

kayakssss :D fun stuff!

There are some other physical activities we did in the camp too :) here are some photos to refer : -

abseiling & repelling
(attached to a rope, jump down from top by pushing self outward with legs against the blue board)

10 feet wall - panjat panjat :))

crawl under low barbed wire

tarzan swing

tunnel

monkey climb

One fact in the whole camp is, the fights between the 4 companies (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie and Delta) was really tight and everything you do might affect the reputation and points of your company.. it's so stressful that when there is a time i overslept in camp with a Sarawakian guy, Richard... we overslept and by the time we woke up, it was already 1 hour late for our marching. We quickly dress ourselves and went down, and our Alpha company's guru penasihat stare at both of us unhappily and we are punished by the commandant to "lari papan" for 10 rounds around the padang kawad.. "lari papan" is a term used in the camp itself indicating running rounds.. i duno why called Papan, but we just know it's not a good thing in the camp. ~.~

during one of our group marching

left side is the padang kawad btw.. the place where i lari 10 papan :'(
those houses are the classrooms we went for Kenegaraan classes

closer view

We have Hari Korporat (formal clothes day) and Hari Tradisional, Monday and Friday respectively for our Alpha company.. our company adviser wanted us to show our discipline by everything in uniformity... they wanted us to show that we're better than other company... that kind of mind set ~.~ so we dress formal and we borrow clothes from each other....

sometime things just get too bored...
*wink*

My family always came to visit me every Saturday to reduce my home-sickness, too bad family can just enter to canteen and nearby, not for our dorm at the uphill. Unfortunately, for Sabahan and Sarawakian friends, i can see them crying at the lakeside and hide to some places that are not visible.. It feels really bad when they see Selangor ppl like me can have parents to visit every week... Guess what, there are many parents who are so kind to ask them to join along for food and stuffs :) family time that shared among the friends, how awesome it is!

the lakeside - used to be the "emo" place for those friends...

the pondok-pondoks that the families can enjoy their weekly "reunion"

the canteen.. as u can see we always baris inside the canteen

Mentioning about kind parents, the week before Chinese New Year, there is this father of a camper came and stand at the gate, taking the role of Cai Shen (the wealth god) and started giving ang pau.... wow.. each packet is RM5! there are around 300+ ppl in our camp, and there are some naughty boys went to take 2nd round and 3rd round... :S cos he dun even remember who u are already.. but it's really not good to take things for granted.. and honestly, we dun even know who is this father's son/daughter o.o!!

I also remember the time when my cousin brother's family brought in pork for us to eat.. our Malay friends keep asking what isit but we of course not letting them to eat... we both ate in dorm with some chinese friends.. haha.. what a funny experience. Eh, u must understand the feeling of no-pork days u noe.. lols!

Our canteen recalls me about the song when we march "Ini lah barisan kita, yang ikhlas berjuang, siap sedia berkorban, Menuju Dewan Makan!!" lol.. everytime after kelas kenegaraan we have to march and sing this with empty stomach... all the way we go to canteen like this.. it's so funny... :p

Many memories in there, but i barely remember everything! most importantly was what i learnt in this camp, i noticed that discipline can sometimes save your ass, but most of the time cause u to lose social ability too! being 'too' discipline and take every step seriously and cautiously is not a way for u to socialize in camp like this... that can be applied when we're outside dealing with strangers associating with money kind of stuff, but definitely not in National Service!! if i could open my heart and i definitely gain more than what i had.

more Cina gangs :p

our Alpha company

at the end of the PLKN, as a proof we completed the national service
for me, it's to prevent they catch u back for another round again!

I hardly remembered the song my friend made for Kem Setia Ikhlas.. it's sound nice and the lyrics goes like this:

Di sini kita bertemu
lantas terbina ikatan yang mesra
kita bersama bersatu setia
di bawah sebuah menara

Kita menangis bersama
jua riang dan ketawa
apa yang telah dijanji
demi bakti kepada negara

Oh Kem Setia Ikhlas
kau dalam kenangan
di sini lah bermulanya cinta

Oh Kem Setia Ikhlas
impian dan harapan
sebuah warisan anak bangsa tercinta

Namamu sungguh indah
akan ku abadikan
di dalam sanubariku

Apa yang pasti
suatu masa nanti
kita akan berpisah jua.....
